Digging Deep Financially- Jump!
It was August 31, 2015 and I found myself sitting in a small plane on my way 13,000 feet up into the air for my first tandem SKYDIVE. I remember thinking, "WHY on God's good green earth am I doing this?!? I mean, craziest thing every, right?
I was terrified but I was equally determined not to punk out. I kept telling myself, "you can do this!" And I did, I jumped and let me tell you, it was one of the most AMAZING experiences of my life. My favorite part turned out to be the thing I was fearing the most-falling out of the plane. I was anticipating that sinking feeling you get in your stomach when you're on a roller coaster but as it turned out, it didn't feel like the roller coaster drop at all. As the wind swept beneath me, I closed my eyes and I surrendered to the moment. I felt as light as a feather and I had the most peaceful and powerful sense of letting go and trusting I've ever experienced and then it happened- I opened my eyes. I opened my eyes to take in the beauty of the moment and I trusted that everything was going to be alright. I trusted the parachute was going to open when it was supposed to, I trusted my tandem partner to know what to do and I trusted that we were both going to land safely on the ground-and we did!
When it was all over, you couldn't tell me I was not a Bad Chick after that! I felt like I could take on anything and now whenever I am feeling overwhelmed and intimated by what's in front of me, I think back to that day and I tell myself..."just jump!" I face my fear and it usually turns out not to be as bad as I was anticipating. I've learned to lean in when my initial reaction is to resist and the reward is that I don't walk away empty handed.
Maybe you've been feeling afraid or powerless to address your financial situation and it has kept you and your loved ones from living the kind of life you have envisioned for yourself, if that's you-you're not alone. I've been there! So, let's do this together, in tandem... take a leap of faith and together we will land safely where you want to be.
Start by getting a journal (not just any journal, find something that is beautiful and that speaks to you) and then answer the following questions:
1. What is your vision for your life? Really think about this. What do you value and how does money support your ability to live in alignment with those values everyday?
2. How has fear or being stuck in your current financial situation cost you your vision, your voice and your ability to choose how you show up in the world?
I have answered these questions for myself many times as I have transitioned through different phases of my life and as I stand in the truth of my responses, I have gained the clarity I needed in order to take the next step.
Feel free to share your responses with me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to hearing from you!
